Having a courtyard in Hutong is the dream of Michael and his wife for years. Fortune had a hand in helping them realize the dream.
Hutongs have appeared in 1276 A.D. in the Yuan Dadu, the capital city of its time. Small alleys that ran between courtyards were earliest Hutongs. For hundreds of years, Hutong and courtyard have been the residential places for nobles, scholars, officials and civilians. They witness the history of Beijing and like a colorful corridor displaying uncountable stories of happiness and sorrows.
In 2005, Michael and his wife found this antiquated courtyard used as offices at that time. Immediately they recognize its potential, the couple since resorted and converted the offices to a boutique hotel.
A self-taught designer with rich experiences in hospitality management, Michael almost planned everything in order to offer qualified and comfortable services and unique experiences. He took a magic approach to his designs by maximizing the use of previous structures. Besides, he roofed the whole yard which foster a sense of shared common space. It's proved the design is amazing and making the yard so elegant to stay.
